Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Superconducting Quantum Circuits

Department of Physics, the University of Oxford
Application Deadline: midday, 16th May 2022

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in   Superconducting Quantum Circuits.

The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration of   24 months, with the possibility of extension for 24 months.

This project will  be on the research and development of high fidelity entangling gate, and address the issues of hardware overhead and thermal load in superconducting circuits for quantum computing.

The successful candidate will design and carry out experiments on superconducting microwave circuits, and develop multiplexing techniques and package integration methods for readout and control of quantum circuits in the state-of-the-art cryogenic laboratories. The candidate will collect and analyse experimental data, write up for publication, and present their results at research conferences. Their work may involve superconducting microwave circuit design and simulation, theoretical analysis of classical and quantum circuits, development of numerical techniques, cleanroom device fabrication, setup and operation of cryogenic systems, and microwave control electronics and software.

The post-holder will have the opportunity to teach.

Applicants should hold a PhD, or be close to completion in physics or electrical engineering or a related field and have a strong background in experimental quantum information and microwave techniques or quantum device physics                     .

Previous experience in the field of superconducting quantum circuits, circuit theory and synthesis, and microwave techniques will be an advantage.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate   excellent teamwork and communication skills.

Please direct enquiries about the role to Mustafa Bakr (

Only applications received before midday (UK time) 16 May 2022 can be considered. You will be required to upload a statement of research interests, CV and details of two referees as part of your online application.
